All rounders have been a rare commodity in Indian cricket. Every player who performs decently with the bat as well as the bowl is always compared to the great Kapil Dev.
Irfan Pathan, Ajit Agarkar, Ashwin and even at a point of time Sourav Ganguly were compared to Kapil Dev. The comparison though may sound flattering for the players, it is very harmful for their careers. Irfan Pathan is the best example.
The guy who used to bat well and bowl well, Irfan Pathan, is now a forgotten entity in the cricket circles. He saw fame, failure and frustration at such an early stage that it was impossiple to recover from there. Yesterday one more cricketer was compared to Kapil Dev. Yes, indeed, jayant Yadav the off spinner scored 35 runs and commentators like Sanjay manjrekar started comparing him with Kapil Dev.
Though these are early days for jayant, he should keep his head strong and focus on his cricket rather than being flattered by an average commentator like Sanjay Manjrekar.
